Happy Sunday, Middle!
Every Thursday afternoon at 2pm, I have meeting with my team and ask them two questions:
What is feeding you?
What are you hungry for?
(Metaphorically speaking, of course. 😉) We sit for a minute and think about our work week, what’s happened, the wins, the failures, things that help us feel supported, and ways we need help. Then we listen to each other share and often see where we intersect, or sometimes, where we can help. The point really isn’t whether we can do anything, –though I’m grateful to work with such a supportive and willing team– but to help us assess in real time how we “be” together.
I invite you this Sunday to consider these questions as you come to church and as you consider your relationship with Middle. What is feeding you? What are you hungry for? You can reply to this email, if you’re willing to share. I’d love to hear from you.
See you at church,
I am fed by the Light and Love of God, within, without, in, and as me.
I am hungry for the courage to lead and assist others.
I am fed by a message that I heard when I first walked into Middle Church more than 20 years ago: you are loved by God, just as you are, right in the shoes you stand up in. I moved to TX and have not found a church home. so I watch and listen to Middle. Please allow me to say, in the gentlest and boldest way possible, that in the recent weeks and months I do not hear that. I am a white woman. I risk being called a snowflake fragile whiny-butt privileged blinded deaf typical liberal but my truth is, between whyte people being so whyte and a white feminists being liars--I know its a revolution and stark words must be repeated. I am white and I try. I know Im fail all the time and I am mortified. Believing that I am loved by God is not the same as hearing it said by beloved spiritual leaders. Godspeed everyone
