Fire that Bridges
“And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered….” Acts 2.6a
Happy Sunday, Middle!
First things first, a heads up: The next batch of bricks will go up for Juneteenth. If you’ve been planning to purchase but haven’t yet, please do so by Thursday to be included in this next set.
There is such a struggle to speak the same language across the table right now. Even getting everyone to the table in the first place is a feat! How do we do it?
Our ancient audience heard the story of this miracle that bridged gaps, that leveled the playing field, that removed inaccessibility, that brought everyone together. The noise was heard, and a crowd gathered. They were confused by what they witnessed. Has there been anything that has confused you recently? I’m confused by all of the people who are jumping ship now from MAGA. To me, nothing has changed, and I don’t understand how all of a sudden NOW they get it. I hear phrases come out of pundits and journalists mouths that have come out of my own. It seems like we are suddenly speaking the same language.
And while I am hesitant to believe this sudden change, I hold the hope that this ancient audience would have had about a bridge being crossed that wasn’t before. A fresh new opportunity to right the ship. My seminary advisor, Dr. James H. Cone, told me that no matter what, “you’ve got to hold the HOPE!”
So today, Beloved, as we head into Pentecost, I hold the hope with you.
See you at church,
